Environmental & Social Governance (ESG)

In 2025, Kaebauk continued to strengthen its commitment to implementing effective Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management practices across its operational activities, while ensuring compliance with the Company’s ESG Policy. At the same time, Kaebauk remains attentive to ESG-related legislation in Timor-Leste and to relevant international best practices that may be adopted in the future.

Kaebauk’s ESG commitment has been reinforced through participation in a series of two-day ESG training programs delivered by Agents for Impact (AFI).

These trainings were conducted across three different periods and locations:

  • Ubud, Bali, Indonesia (2023), attended by Mr. Antonio H. Soares, Chief Development & Marketing Officer;

  • Valencia, Spain (2024), attended by Mr. Antonio H. Soares and Mr. Tarsisio da Costa, Deputy CEO – Business & Operations; and

  • Ubud, Bali, Indonesia (2025), attended by Mr. Jacob Neto, representing Kaebauk.

The training programs emphasized the importance of ESG principles for financial institutions and covered key topics such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework, ESG corporate strategy and alignment, and sustainability practices within microfinance institutions. Participants also examined case studies, assessed waste impacts in the tourism sector, and explored the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as global sustainability benchmarks.

🌱 During the first day of the training, participants gained a strong foundation in ESG principles and explored how corporate strategies can be transformed to support long-term sustainability and resilience.

🌱 Key topics included sustainability and climate-related risks and their impacts on financial institutions, as well as balancing Net Zero commitments with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) objectives within ESG strategies.

🌱 The training also featured practical components, including simulated exercises and interactive activities, which challenged participants to develop solutions aligned with ESG principles and to apply sustainability concepts in real-world scenarios.

🌱 In addition, participants had the opportunity to observe ESG in action through a field visit to sustainable and eco-friendly landscapes, providing practical insights into environmental stewardship and responsible development.

Looking ahead, Kaebauk will continue to prioritize and integrate ESG practices throughout 2025. In 2026, the Company plans to further strengthen its ESG framework by engaging a third-party organization to conduct an independent ESG assessment and to develop a long-term ESG action plan. This initiative will enable Kaebauk to align with global ESG standards, obtain an official assessment of its current ESG performance, and implement tailored actions that reflect both Kaebauk’s operational context and the regulatory and social environment of Timor-Leste.
